From the 2000s, Turkey has become increasingly committed to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage program. It has implemented a whole raft of measures, including numerous applications for cultural heritage listing, increased financial contributions, and active participation in UNESCO’s functioning, all of which indicate the ambition of the Turkish government to become a key player in UNESCO arenas.
