Nous réfléchirons à la fois à partir de textes canoniques (Max Weber, Howard Zinn, Christine Delphy, Abdelmalek Sayad, Pierre Bourdieu…) et de cas concrets sur la pertinence et la légitimité à s'engager en sciences sociales. Nous nous demanderons comment distinguer objectivité et neutralité: si l'objectivation (croisement et analyse des sources) est un objectif fondamental à atteindre dans nos disciplines, la neutralité est bien davantage sujette à interrogation, tout simplement quant à sa possibilité même. Cela reviendra également à travailler sur la notion de réflexivité. Nous partirons donc de situations comparées pour mieux prolonger ce débat à la fois classique et sans cesse renouvelé.

Ludivine Bantigny est historienne, enseignante et chercheuse, membre du laboratoire d’histoire de l’Université Rouen-Normandie. Elle a publié de nombreux livres sur l’histoire de la jeunesse, du travail, des engagements, des mouvements sociaux et des révolutions, parmi lesquels Le plus bel âge ? Jeunes et jeunesses en France de l’aube des « Trente Glorieuses » à la guerre d’Algérie (Fayard, 2007), 1968. De grands soirs en petits matins (Seuil, 2018 rééd. 2020), Révolution (Anamosa, 2019, rééd. 2022), La Commune au présent. Une correspondance par-delà le temps (La Découverte, 2021) et L’ensauvagement du capital (Seuil, 2022).

Maps are a powerful way to reflect the world as we see it, rather than it is really. In this context, they act as a sort of “dreaming machine” with which we can mix reality with our fantasy. In this Lecture, Philippe Rekacewicz, geographer, cartographer, and information designer, will provide a critical overview of the map as an invention, multidimensional, complex, and systemic object, and as a powerful tool for representing diverse sources of information (quantitative and qualitative data), as well as perceptions and emotions, processed in a sensorial way, leading to very specific « map objects » that involve senses including human bodies…

Born in 1960, Philippe Rekacewicz is a French geographer cartographer/Information designer. After the completion of his study in geography at University of Paris la Sorbonne he became in 1988 a permanent collaborator of the international newspaper Le Monde diplomatique in Paris which he left in 2014. From 1996 to 2007 he was also heading the cartographic unit of a relocated office of UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) in Norway. Since 2014 he works as a geographer cartographer for art museum research institutes and international organizations. He is co-coordinator with Philippe Rivière of the website visionscarto.net a research website dedicated to “radical and experimental cartography”, exploring possibilities of sensorial mapping with local communities Since January 2022 he is an associate researcher at the Department of Anthropology for the University in Wageningen (Netherlands) working on the programme “EmbodiedEcologies”.
