Atelier méthodologique - Teke Kale in Ancient Karya: an example of a remote fortified siteEvénement fermé au public Intervention en anglais Nicolas Rivière ( étudiant en 2ème année de master à l'Université Lumière Lyon 2, boursier de courte durée à l'IFEA) The site of Teke Kale, currently dated from the end of the classical period and the Hellenistic period, is located at an altitude of nearly 800 m in the mountains of Latmos, there is an imposing fortress still in elevation and a necropolis of rock-cut sarcophagi. The goal of my research is to determine the place that Teke Kale hold in the defensive and funerary landscape of Karya in the 4th-3rd centuries BCE.
The presentation will be both on the historical context of the region and on the architecture of the ruins. I will also talk about the different theories and line of reserch on the role of the site and its importance in the karian territory.
