ARISC Graduate Student, Postdoctoral, and Junior Faculty Research Fellowship

***Deadline extended to Friday, February 22, 2013*** The American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC) announces the availability of US graduate student, postdoctoral and junior faculty (pre-tenure) fellowships in support of research and mentoring activities in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia). The goals of the fellowship are to support research in and the study of the South Caucasus; and to select, recognize and financially support individuals early in their careers who demonstrate high potential to contribute to research in this region. Projects in all fields in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences are eligible, but all projects must include one or more undergraduate and/or graduate students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia as research assistants/participants in order

Call for papers : 1st International Conference on “Istanbul during the Ottoman Period”

Istanbul 29 Mayıs University is pleased to announce and invite you to the first International Conference on “Istanbul during the Ottoman Period”. The conference will take place at Istanbul 29 Mayıs University, on May 28th and 31th, 2013. The aim is to explore and trace the historical, social, cultural and economic developments that led to the growth of an Ottoman Istanbul. A nexus of multiple cultures, rules and economies, Istanbul, had and still has a pivotal role within academic research projects, and in this “Ottoman Istanbul” meeting we hope to gather scholars working on the city for interdisciplinary contributions and discussions. Nouveau musée privé à İzmir : Arkas Deniz Tarihi Merkezi

  Le président de la holding Arkas a inauguré la 17 mai 2012 un nouveau musée consacré à l’histoire maritime à Bornova (Izmir). Le musée expose près d’uen centaine de maquettes de navires allant du premier millénaire avant JC au 20e siècle, des antiquités maritimes ainsi qu’une collection de 67 œuvres picturales rassemblées au cours des 30 dernières années par Lucien Arkas. Ce nouveau musée vient compléter l’offre culturelle de la Arkas Holding qui a déjà ouvert en novembre 2011 un centre de soutien et promotion des arts dans une aile du bâtiment du consulat honoraire de France à Izmir.

Gypsy Lore Society Annual Meeting and Conference on Gypsy Studies

Gypsy Lore Society meetings are held on an annual basis and are rotated among different US cities and other countries. Meetings typically include presentations of recent research, discussion sessions, exhibits and films. Gypsy Lore Society members receive discounts on meeting registration fees. The 2013 Annual Meeting of the Gypsy Lore Society and Conference on Gypsy Studies will be held at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, Thursday, September 12 through Saturday, September 14. University Residences is making rooms available  to conference participants. A ceilidh is being arranged at a local restaurant. A call for papers will be posted soon.
