The access to the labor market Syrians in the neighboring countries of Syria remains a policy-sensitive issue seven years into an ongoing civil war. In this presentation, Omar Kadkoy will go briefly through the region to showcase the initiatives and policy updates to relax the access to the national labor markets. Then, he will cover the state of play in Turkey in terms of legislation, Syrians in the labor market, and finally, he will present the case of Syrian entrepreneurs in the subjects of capital, sector breakdown, location, and what it means for the economy of Turkey.
Omar Kadkoy is a Research Associate at the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey’s (TEPAV) Area Studies Program, having joined the organization in August 2014. At TEPAV, his work focuses on migration especially the socio-economic integration of the forcibly displaced population in the areas of employment, entrepreneurship, education, and housing.
