La communauté sépharade d’Istanbul

Juifs romaniotes, karaïtes, krymchaks, mizrahis, dönmes, sépharades et ashkenazes, la présence de la communauté juive à Istanbul est ancienne et bien documentée. L’expulsion des Juifs de la péninsule ibérique en 1492 scelle le lien entre les populations juives originaires d’Espagne –Sepharad étant le terme en hébreu qui désigne l’Espagne- et leur nouvelle terre d’accueil, l’Empire ottoman, alors en pleine expansion. Romanyot, Karay, Kırımçak, Mizrahi, Selanikli, Sefarad ve Aşkenaz kökenli olmak üzere, İstanbul Musevi cemaati köklü ve belgelere dayanan bir geçmişe sahiptir. Musevilerin İber Yarımadası’ndan 1492’de kovuluşu, İspanyol Yahudilerileriyle yani Sefaradlarla (İbranice’de Sefaradİspanya demektir) o zamanlarda genişlemekte olan ve Musevilerin yurt edinecekleri Osmanlı topraklarında arasında örülecek bağların temelini atar.
