Kuzeybatı Anadolu’da Neolitik Dönem’in başlangıcı ile ilgili araştırılan yerleşimlerin sayısı fazla değildir. Bu ilk tarımcı toplulukların tarımsal ürünlerini besin haline getirmeleri için aletlere ihtiyaçları vardı. Kazılardan neredeyse en az hasarla elimize ulaşan malzemelerden biri olan taş aletler, bize bu toplulukların günlük yaşamları hakkında önemli detaylar verebilmektedir. Avrupa arkeolojisinde en fazla irdelenen konulardan biri olan, ‘prehistorik topluluklarda uzmanlaşma’nın olup olmadığını bu taş aletlerin üretimindeki ayrıntılardan çıkarabiliriz.
