This hybrid seminar (both online and in person) is also bilocalized: it connects the Parisian venue of EHESS with the Istanbul-based yet French-speaking venue of the French Institute of Anatolian Studies (IFEA).
The seminar will explore the exercise of political domination and its contestations, as well as competitions for control of the field of power and various forms of social mobilization (electoral mobilizations, struggles for the defense of the environment or cultural heritage, and movements for workers’ and women’s rights), all within a sociohistorical perspective.
Its main purpose is to highlight recent research on contemporary Turkey and to engage with the theoretical, historiographical, and even epistemological debates that shape the field of contemporary Turkish studies—particularly those conducted and published in the Turkish language.
