Organised with the support of IMS-FORTH and ERC-EU.
A three-day thematic workshop on a little-studied topic explored in the framework of the MACAUTH research project: the transfer of surveillance practices, state-sponsored political violence and nationalist indoctrination from Ottoman and post-Ottoman Macedonia to the Balkan nation-states and their Diasporas, in order to control their overseas emigrants from a national and/or political standpoint, and the repercussions of this transfer on the social and political life of the emigrants’ countries of origin. The workshop will include a public lecture by the project’s Principal Investigator, Dr Tasos Kostopoulos, on the broader scope and findings of the MACAUTH project.
