Ce séminaire interroge l’ordre stato-national qui s’instaure en 1922-1923 en Turquie et autour d’elle, à travers les individus et groupes qui se retrouvent le plus difficilement, et à travers les processus par lesquels ils sont renvoyés vers des “marges” de l’Etat, minorisés, dominés et subalternes, altérisés et racisés, confinés à des confins et des périphéries.
1ère Séance: « The Bedouin, Turkish War of Independence and the border-making in the Middle East »

This conference will focus on the relationship between the Arab tribes and the Kemalist movement/Republic of Turkey through the 1920s during the making of the state borders in the Middle East. The tribal agency will particularly be highlighted with regard to cross-border realities. The border between Turkey, Syria and Iraq will be put under scrutiny. The impact of the Turkish War of Independence on the tribal positions will be interrogated.
