This workshop aims to bring together researchers with various methodological and theoretical backgrounds in an effort to examine the concept of middle class within the contemporary Turkish context. Themes that are going to be discussed include topics such as middle class identifications, transformation of middle classes, and spatial, political and consumptive practices of middle classes in Turkey. The goal of the workshop is to create a platform to collectively think through and debate the following two-fold question without ignoring the difficulties associated with this problematic and blurry concept: How can we scrutinize middle class as a concept utilizing data from Turkey? And to what extent can we understand the transformations of Turkey employing middle class as a conceptual tool?
